Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay, Come Inside Now It's OK.

Alex Chilton of Big Star and The Box Tops, the man whose voice launched a thousand bands, died in New Orleans yesterday of an apparent heart attack.
He was 59 years old. Talented and influential, his lyrics and songs have shaped popular music for almost 40 years.

On his fame and influence, Mr. Chilton had this to say: "What would be ideal would be to make a ton of money and have nobody know about you," he said. "Fame has a lot of baggage to carry around. I wouldn't want to be like Bruce Springsteen. I don't need that much money and wouldn't want to have 20 bodyguards following me."
